“Happiness is not something ready made. It comes from your own actions.”
~ Dalai Lama XIV
We all wish each other a ‘Happy New Year’ during January.
What exactly are we wishing for our friends and family? Is it more money, good
health, or good relationships? Will any of this good fortune actually make
someone happy? Many people with some or all of these things still feel
unfulfilled. Yet others with much less can be content and satisfied. According
to the Dalai Lama, happiness is a personal choice. Our wish must be for our
loved ones to find their personal peace.
When I think about people I know who are genuinely happy, I
notice a common similarity. They are usually charitable, loving, and selfless
people. Whether rich or poor, or somewhere in between, they are focused on
giving rather than receiving. Could this be the key to finding lasting
happiness? Observe happy people you encounter and come to your own conclusion.
A simple change of focus could make all the difference in the world.
I wish everyone true happiness for this New Year, and for
all the years to come.
